Twin Cores : Spaceship Design

I was in charge to design the ships that players control in our graduation project game : Twin Cores.
During the creation, I had to do a lot of research to answer many questions:
Humanize the ships so that players can identify themselves.
Vary the designs to differentiate between the 2 ships.
How will they express themselves ?
How will they merge ?
Make them into robots ? Drones ? Ships ?
I think it is one of the most challenging design I had to do until now, but it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot during the process

We finally agreed on a main concept which I proceeded to detail, always starting from the back of the ship as it is the face players we'll see 99% of the time.

We realized that the player's model will be smaller than we imagined so we had to simplify its shapes to keep it readable and, as a result, reiterate on the concept.

This board is more an experimentation with colors than iterations for the ships because we determined later the colors for each ship by making Fakescreens of the game.
